Oh... well.. I guess maybe the UPS I got isn't going to work directly with
my i5 then.

Here's what I got:

http://www.tripplite.com/products/product.cfm?productID=2800

If it won't, I can always do USB to my PC and do some fun scripting to shut
the i5 down in an outage. :)

You need IBM's special cable or a vendor supplied that does the same
thing. The UPS must support the Open/Close relay style of interface. Most
PC type UPS's use a Serial Interface. Those will not work.

The port is labeled either T1 or T2

I got a cable with the UPS.. it's a tripp lite. Can I just use that
cable?
Not sure what pigtail your referring to.

Also, not sure which port you're referring to. In the top left corner
there
are 2, and there some others below the power port.

With the Box unplugged for about 5 minutes... Plug the short
pigtail cable
in to the 9 pin serial port closest power plug. Plug the UPS cable into
that pigtail. Plug in the system and you should be set.

Got my i5! UPS connection question

my 515 just showed up today. Boy, I feel like a kid in a candy store.
:)

Question on connecting the UPS.. does IBM have instructions anywhere
for
this? I found some for the 520, but not sure if that would suffice.

Basically wondering where the cable plugs into and the steps needed to
get
thing going.

Thanks!
