The knock-off drives are no doubt Chinese. That's what happens when in our race to the
bottom for cheap labor/parts we outsource technology and transfer knowledge to the Far
East, where there is little concern (or protection) for the value of American
Intellectual Property.
Unfortunately, _our_ government has been loathe to pursue any claims in the WTO against
any of these manufacturers, so the American companies usually go broke while the
counterfeiters sell the fake goods everywhere, including the USA.
