Actually, IIRC, both Oracle and SQL Server provide APIs for non-SQL access
into the DBs.

common.

I don't think so, Charles. I've heard that Oracle now has some ISAM access
APIs, but I've never seen them. As far as I know Oracle has been solely
SQL-based (well, Oracle's proprietary PL/SQL) from the beginning. They do
have indexed-ordered tables, but those are a different animal and they don't
provide ISAM access. They've been added to provide performance enhancements
for relational data access.

Microsoft Access is an ISAM database, and the Jet engine also supported
ISAM, but there is no indication that SQL Server ever supported anything
other than SQL.
