"Skippy". Good one. I've run into way too many of them during my journey.
Thanks for making my day. Bon appetit' tomorrow.

Subject: Re: Ugh.. IBM Milking Developers.. question on maching config (IOP)

IOP = Input/Output Processor

That depends on what you are attaching which determines if you need
a certain IOP.

That wouldn't sell you a machine that doesn't work, so you need to
know what the feature code is of the IOP in question.

Shoot me a copy and I'll try to figure it out for you.

I have never known of IBM to be "shady", dumb..yes, shady...no.

I suspect you have run into the infamous "Skippy" that works in
many major corporations.

Certain IOP's have been optional for the entire life of the box.

Ok, I was all set a month ago to purchase my i5. Then we ended up moving
so
I put it off. We had done everything except made the payment. This is
for
a 515 under the developer's program.

Now, a couple days I ago I tell them we're all settled and I'm ready to
pay.
Then they add on $2100 for IOP and explain it's no longer free.

Is this something I need? Is it something I want? I will be purchasing
instead of leasing the machine, so after a year, it's mine. :)

As far as the dealings with IBM on buying this, they've been a little shady
IMHO. I understand "they have the right to change prices at any time" but
this is silly. We were all done, and they even suggested waiting until I
was moved to do the purchase so I don't have to move the machine.

Not to mention it too over a week and 2 emails to finally get them talking
to me again.

If anyone is interested, I'll email the config they have set up to see if
IOP is something that is needed. I'm not much of a hardware guy myself
(yet
I guess).
