From: Walden H. Leverich

but one thing I do know about Lotus (my brother was a very high-end
Domino administrator) is that it runs and runs and runs.

Yes, that's why Google returns nearly 2 million hits for "domino crash"
with the first one being a document on IBM's web site entitled
"Troubleshooting Lotus Domino hangs and crashes"

Oh no! Not the dreaded "Google hits" defense! <grin> Domino crash:
1,340,000 hits. Exchange crash: 5,230,000. Hey, try this! Put it in
quotes: "Domino crash", 1,200 hits, "Exchange crash" 12,400. So what does
that prove?

Everything crashes Joe, you know that. For Penton to be w/out mail for
several days isn't a technical issue, it simply shows that they didn't
plan the deployment correctly, as I doubt management signed-off on a
"several day outage" as the fallback if something went wrong.

Gz, you thin skinned people need to cut back on the caffeine! I
specifically said I couldn't point at Exchange, but that in my experience
Domino runs and runs and runs. And so you get upset because I MIGHT be
implying that MAYBE Exchange might be less robust than Domino, even though I
said I wasn't saying any such thing.

Maybe we'll find out what actually happened. I mean, it's possible that the
deployment was staged correctly and even after testing was performed, the
server fell over anyway. Or the deployment was poorly planned and they
tried to cut over before they should have. Or maybe a meteorite struck
their server room, killing everyone except one technician, who was wounded
and went into a delusional frenzy, waving a giant degausser around all the
backup tapes because he thought they were aliens.

In any case, until we know more, just relax, breathe deep, and say
oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

<smile>

Joe
