Sorry,

Don't know what I was thinking. You asked for SQL, I gave you RPG.

The simpler way is to wrap the harder way in a UDF. For that matter, you could define a UDF from an
RPG procedure that does what you need using the code I originally provided.

If you don't know about UDFs, take a look at the "Stored Procedures, Triggers, and User-Defined
Functions on DB2 Universal Database for iSeries" Redbook.

HTH,
Charles

Subject: Date to 8 char in SQL

I'm trying to get a character representation of the current date in
sql. I can get the date in ISO format, but it has the '-'
in it. What
is the easiest way to get the current date in YYYYMMDD format?

I know that I can do something like:

substr(char(curdate(), iso),1,4) concat substr(char(curdate(),
iso),6,2) concat substr(char(curdate(), iso),9,2)

There must be a simpler way?! Isn't there?
