Kurt,

(Sorry about the late post, just getting up to date with
the list emails?)

Regarding your questions, let me comment on some of our
experiences:

2. Has anyone here had their company (or been involved
with a company) who switched "completely" away from green
screen to some other GUI > format? If so, would you mind
sharing the language(s) that were used?
*******************************
The company I'm currently working for decided long ago to
go the route of ASNA's Visual RPG. Particularly, I do like
IBM's VARPG a lot better than ASNA's in terms of things
like syntax, SQL compatibility, etc.. That said, I'm afraid
IBM hasn't given the support that VARPG deserves, so I'm
afraid (*maybe*) it wouldn't be the best option right now.

ASNA's VRPG is very easy to learn, implement and work
with, and we haven't had any major problems with it
(although you can't use embedded SQL the way you do in
RPGLE, it must be done thru the ODBC route).

4. It sounds like Java on the System i has had its speed
improved post v5r2. Is it night and day or is it
negligible? Our website went Windows after complaints of
speed on our v5r2 box (we're v5r4 now).
*******************************
It seems that V6R1 will have a new JVM, developed in
Rochester, that is a *lot* better in terms of performance.
Have you checked on that?

As others have already written about, EGL seems to be a
really interesting option, and I hope to "play" with it a
little more in the future.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Luis Rodriguez
