Subject: GUI development language
Not to long ago, we decided to go to Visual Age RPG for new interface
development. However, we're reanalyzing the language decision though
we'd still like to go with a non-green-screen interface. So I have a
few questions.
1. Can anyone recommend any sites that compare the pros and cons of
Browser-based applications vs .exe type applications. Apparently my
web searching skills have failed me with this one.
2. Has anyone here had their company (or been involved with a
company) who switched "completely" away from green screen to some
other GUI format? If so, would you mind sharing the language(s) that
3. Like VARPG, PHP seems to have a limitation in calling System I
service program procedures in that the only value that can be returned
is 10i 0 (which sounds like it is based on the QZRUCLSP API). Is
there any word on this potentially changing so the return value
doesn't have to be an integer? We could develop our service programs
to return values in the parameters only, but we have a lot of existing
service programs that are using the return value.
4. It sounds like Java on the System i has had its speed improved
post v5r2. Is it night and day or is it negligible? Our website went
Windows after complaints of speed on our v5r2 box (we're v5r4 now).
Any input would be greatly appreciated (though I really hope this
doesn't devolve into [a] is better than [b]. ;)
