I think MS does charge by use of their servers, regardless of Active
Directory entry or not. I think with the 515 and the 525 IBM looked at
who they were targeting and decided if MS can get away with it then IBM
could also.

We're not really talking about a security breach here. It is quite common
to use "validation lists" (object type *VLDL) and other techniques to
authenticate a user and then use programs with adopted authority or some
such animal to get to the data they want. Actually this level of
"application only" access can often be more secure than granting direct
access to the data. So, user rob@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx logs in. This is
checked against the validation list (or ldap or whatever) and then
programs owned by WEBUSER return processing.
