Although the date range 2007-08-01 to 2007-08-21 might work in the
given SELECT, unless the date never spans a month [or year], such a test
must be avoided. The date range 2007-08-01 to 2007-09-21 which spans a
month for example, would exclude all values between 22-Aug and 31-Aug,
when surely they are desired.
For minimal logic for structuring a query given varying values for
the input date range, code the query to ensure that both the input
values and query expression for selection become character strings in
the form 'YYYYMMDD'. Or code the query to ensure that the input values
become a character string in a date format that is generally recognized
by the query as a date data type [i.e. *ISO, *USA, or *JIS forms,
avoiding all *JOB supported formats] and that the query expression for
selection become the date data type.
For example, the character string form:
select namfld from myfile where
(case when fyy<40 then '20' else '19' end
concat digits(fyy)
concat digits(fmm)
concat digits(fdd) )
between (byyyy concat bmm concat bdd)
and (eyyyy concat emm concat edd)
