My understanding is that WINS makes the names of Windows clients
available to DNS. Client systems aren't normally put into DNS as DNS
entries. WINS or Dynamic DNS is used so clients can be known to DNS.
Then rexec (and other TCP/IP apps) can resolve the name of the client
system.
