I think they would be built to where they have the requisites within the
Hiper, but not 100% sure.

Pete,

Do hipers assume that you are at the latest cume? So if you try to apply
a "standard" hiper CD (versus one customized for your system) would it
possibly blow because of prereq's and coreq's?

I think this maybe like a religion type of answer, and everyone I am sure
has their preference. But here is mine with the reasons why.

First, I always go to the web and get SF98VRM (V=version, R=Release,
M=Mod)
to see if there is anything that is defective or any issues which I need
to
know about.

When applying PTF maintenance (not after an i5/OS upgrade) I always load
the
Hypers and Databases first, and then load the Cume. The Hypers and
Database
Group ptfs come out more often, and therefore will have PTFs that are more
current. Doing the Cume first means you will then load PTFs, which will
then be superseded when you load the more current PTFs (On the Hypers and
DB
Groups).

I always load the PTFs as delayed during the week, and then IPL over the
weekend.

I recall seeing that once in the Cume instructions. It has been so long
ago (or maybe it's the gray hair, which is simply the gray cells
escaping) that I don't recall the steps. That is, I do remember that I
was using CD's at the time, but I don't recall if I had to install a
specific PTF, re-IPL, and then apply the entire Cume, or if the install
process did that automagically with me just IPLing a second time. I do
recall that there were special instructions in the Cume's cover letter;
there are no such instructions in this Cume's instructions.


All of which seems rather academic today. The cover letter is for Level
7107, which I already have installed. Obviously should have checked the
Tech Support Bulletin's links before starting the download. Duh...
Guess I'll move on to the Groups.


But it's still worth knowing for future reference the correct sequence
and procedure. Chad's process was the one that I used with the last
Cume and some individual PTF's, but I like Rob's suggestion of loading
all with a delay PTF as it seems like it would save a little time.

the weekend. Don't recall ever running into the issue you mention.
