Is there a date testing method which I can use to compare today's date and
the member creation date in CL and find the difference in months?

You can probably do it with CEEDAYS and CEEDATE. Calculate the six months
ago date using the API, add the '1' on the start of the field (there doesn't
appear to be that '0' or '1' century support), and do the comparison against
this "constant".
