Personally, I see this as a very useful exercise... It is NOT in the best interests of our employers for sensitive information to be easily misappropriated. I do not think it unreasonable to assume that, given casual access and opportunity, sensitive data will be stolen and possibly misused.
Do you roll up your windows and lock your doors on your car? You do this NOT to keep the determined thief from stealing from you, but rather to keep the lazy, casual thief from doing his business. Locked doors won't protect you from someone with skill and determination. However, locked doors will deter the lazy and/or stupid who are only opportunists....
