That's going a bit too far, Steve. But it looks like you'll get your wish for lower cost hardware when i5/OS is supported on Power blades. IBM is not likely to charge a lot more for a Power blade than an Intel blade.

In today's data centers you often see a stand-alone System i in a corner accompanied by a bunch of stand-alone Intel servers accompanied by rack and blade mounted servers.

In tomorrows data centers one of the blades will host i5 applications, while Intel blades host Windows applications. The question in my mind is whether Linux applications will be hosted on Power blades or Intel blades?

It seems to me that all the blades will share the same disk, power supply, backup units, and consoles.
