The pack for the 2740 - which is what we have on the 170 - is a NiCad - not the
NiMH found on the 2763 we have on a 270. As far as the NiMH, I took the old
pack to a Batteries Plus here - they found nothing in the DB based on the Sanyo
part number on it - They also did not know why the 3rd lead - I suspect
something for the temperature, since the system will shorten the estimated life
if the ambient temp is high. This particular BattPlus seemed clueless.

So we might be in a different world - it IS an old 2740 card - what do we need
for that? The IBM part number is 44L0305.

Yep. The 'three lead' ones are NiMh type but still three batteries. Not sure what lead three is for but I'm guessing it wouldn't be there if it wasn't needed. At the very least it prevents you from putting an old 2740 battery on a 4778! At the local batteries plus I can call them and get a 'FC #4778" (That's what I had them put into their DB for me.) and they'll build it up.
