I know, I know... "buy a bigger monitor". That's what Aaron did and
he loves WDSC.

Or buy a second monitor the same size as your existing one. I've got two
17" monitors here, and it's pretty nice.

The essential problem is all of the other little windows and decorations

in WDSC take up a lot of space. Plus the fact that you still need an
additional window for any 5250 work, means you need even more real
estate.

As others have already mentioned, the "iSeries Editing Perspective" or a
roll-your-own version of the same addresses this issue pretty handily. Out
of curiosity, I tried putting four iSeries Access for Windows emulators on
one monitor, and WDSC v7 with a four-way split using "iSeries Editing
Perspective" on the other. I could see one extra line of code in each
WDSC view, but only columns 1-70. Mind you, the font size was
considerably larger. I suspect that if I reduced the font size to be
similar to the font in the terminal emulator, I would see as many columns
as I ever need. Speaking of font size in the emulator - you must have
really good eyesight Scott! :P

I agree that using WDSC alongside a 5250 window is a bit of a pain, but
Alt+Tab doesn't hurt _that_ much, does it?

It reminds me of those HP-UX sysops I used to work with - never could
understand why they insisted on using that 'vi'le editor, but boy
were they fast.

That's what I use for Unix programming :)

There are keyboard shortcut profiles for LPEX that make it behave (sort
of) like vi or emacs. The vi keybindings are pretty rough though - for
example, yanking between the cursor and a named mark just doesn't work.

Of course, my other complaint with it is that it's Windows-only. But I
have a feeling that this will never be fixed. I'd like it to be
cross-platform so I can run it on BSD, Mac, Linux, etc. For me, it's
mainly FreeBSD, but I'm sure others want to see it in these other
places.

That would be sweet. I suspect that X handles two monitors better than
Windows does.

HTH,
Adam
