I somewhat agree...

We have WDSc 6.0 installed on our workstations, but my biggest complaint is that (unless you're a power user or JDE OneWorld programmer), the corporate standard here at my client site is 17" monitors. They just don't seem to understand that if the RPG programmers had 21" monitors, we could be considerably more productive for a small one-time incremental price difference.

It is very frustrating to use WDSc on a 17" monitor. The difference in price between a 17" and 21" Dell flat-screen monitor can't be more than $300.00, anyway.

It just doesn't make sense to me, but at work it seems at times that I LIVE in the movie "Office Space"....now where's my red stapler!

Later, gotta go finish my TPS reports...

Dale,

WDSC does a lot of things really well, but for plain old RPG /free
development I find few advantages over PDM. Some folks make fantastic
claims that features like >25 lines on the screen, code outlines and
auto-complete make them "%50 more productive", but for me, all that plus
50 cents will buy a cup of coffee. The annoyances of the slowness of
refreshing RSE and retrieving source members, removing all those unwanted
"endif' statments whenever I edit some code and the general mouse-clicky
style conflict with what I've grown accustomed to. For example, in SEU I
can call up a 2nd source member with shift-F3 faster than you can even
think about grabbing your mouse, much less having to scroll through a
source list or setup some new filter pool. It reminds me of those HP-UX
sysops I used to work with - never could understand why they insisted on
using that 'vi'le editor, but boy were they fast. I do use the 'source -
convert to free' option, but usually find myself returning to PDM when it
becomes necessary to make mods. This assumes you use 19" wide-format
monitors. On the 17' flat-screens that my boss so-proudly presented last
year there is scarcely room for a single WDSC 30-line source window.

Certainly everyone should know WDSC and use it when appropriate, but
forcing its use for editing RPG and CL borders on micromanaging.

Question, though, for this panel. How many of you are using WDSC and how

many are still using PDM/SEU? I can't get my programmers to move onto
WDSC, and it looks like it should be sweet! They say it's too slow and
cumbersome..... and they ARE very fast.

If I did more programming (which I sadly don't have time for), I'd be
doing
a more thorough shakedown myself.

Opinions, please?
