Yep, the screens only displayed something like 24x20 at a time. We didn't
redesign BPCS screens. Instead we developed add-on programs that
circumvented the BPCS pick-slip release, print, and confirm. We used
Telxon/Symbol scanners. If you have more than will fit on the screen it
would automatically "jump" to the next field. If you were creative you
could use most of the screen but make it look like multiple screens.

My beef at the time with Windows CE devices was the lack integration
between the client 5250 emulation software and laser. Most users who were
scanning labels got into a rythm and wouldn't look at the screen. As long
as they pressed the trigger, saw a laser, and heard a beep they kept on
scanning even though the program might not be responding due to the error
being displayed. The Symbol devices shut the laser off when the 5250
displayed an error. I think they also disabled it if there was no
input-capable fields on the screen. Since leaving Dekko I haven't kept up
on the latest in 5250 clients so that may be better now.
