I don't see what open source has to do with a language being scripting
or interpretive. A language is a language. How it's developed is
immaterial.

Also, technically speaking, Java is interpreted too ... it's compiled to
an intermediate format (bytecode) and that is interpreted by the JRE
(yes, I know about the JIT compiler ... but that doesn't have to be used).
