If you happen to have an HMC, you can secure your console session with a
session key (password). Thus, even if you do have to leave the console
signed on at least no one can access the session w/o credentials.

For instance, from the office I can open an HMC console session, set a
session key, start a restricted-state process like GO SAVE/21, RCLSTG,
GO RESTORE/21, or a LIC install, close the emulator on my PC (the
console runs on the HMC; your PC is just the UI client), go home,
connect via VPN, re-open the emulator to the HMC, enter the session key,
and pick up where I left off. Tis a wonderful thing, especially when
you add the capabilities of WebSM.
