Interesting characterization you make - I'm not aware of any product that makes embedded SQL able to talk to SQL Server - except for the federation capabilities in IBM's very expensive but capable Data Integrator or Information Integrator - whatever the current name.

As to 3rd party things, Richard already mentioned our RPG2SQL product - it consists of a service program with function calls that make access to ANY SQL-based database a rather trivial exercise. I hope you have an excuse to look at it sometime.
