If I don't have 5250 emulation on the device's mentioned, then I would need
to use the device as a cellular modem for a laptop.

I'd rather not lug a laptop around ( personal security/safety reasons that
are off topic) but would rather connect from the device directly.

I also don't see a "need" to have a "big screen" (ie laptop) for the vast
majority of what we (i.e. mostly me) would need to do on an emergency basis
that could not wait till I got home/back to work, I could handle scrolling
right/left/up/down to see the full 24x80.

A lot of the "need" is user's perception/waiting till last minute but with
our current status ( working diligently to keep us on the i5 and not go to a
Windows platform for our main applications) ANYTHING I can do will be a big
plus because of course it's the most vocal opponents who have the most
"dislike" of the i5. you get the picture.

I have a 8300 Blackberry that has become part of my hip I use it so
much. I
have service through Verizon which includes unlimited data. I "tether" it
up to my laptop and have full access to email/i5/web/remote desktop/etc.
Works great. When I need to get into my i5 back at the office I log into

VPN appliance called Net Extender from Sonicwall.

On another note you can get 5250 emulation on your blackberry which I
haven't tried yet.

I am looking into way(s) to access our i5 when I am not at home or the

All we really need is a way to check running jobs, answer error messages,

make some quick code changes, etc. We can access our i5 either thru a
direct dial # into the network, RAS? (so my boss says, I've never tried

guess I shoudl from home) or via Citrix over the internet. Key issues

be cost, reliability and ease of use. I am thinking a PDA type device?
Recommendations/warnings would be appreciated.
