As i mostly work with Small Businesses, i really don't know much about
the 595. But I would assume that the failure of a single disk controller
would not affect such a system.

Demanding a Save 21 before doing any work on the hardware is
reasonable

And how long does the option 21 save take? Add that to the time to do
the hardware fix itself and it may not be all that reasonable on a
production machine. I assume on the larger boxes the battery is
hot-swappable? I'd hate to think about having to bring down a 595 to
replace a battery. <G>
