The thinking was that when I launch WebSM I need to go in and do
something. I don't really want to wait around for updates to download.
Especially when I connect from home.

That said, as it turned out we don't update HMC code often, and there
are only a couple of people who use WebSM. So the pushing of updates
hasn't been much of a factor.

Our HMCs are not at identical code levels. Regular WebSM doesn't seem
to care; I don't know if the Java Web Start version would get confused
and try to 'update' to an earlier release level.

Even when I'm at the office I'm not on a local LAN segment to the
iSeries. My office has something like a 6Mb pipe into the WAN and that
pipe is shared by close to 200 people. So anything that preserves
bandwidth is a good thing.

And I want to say that I initially tried the JWS version but have
issues, maybe JVM problems. It's been about 18 months, though, and I
don't recall for sure.

So no compelling reasons. :)
