this is something we can all publicize to the PHP MySQL folks...start
looking for forums for those 2 technologies and start posting...someone
will surely see it and want to see what it's all about...

Thanks,

RE: MySQL on System i

" And I wonder how much longer the Lawson's of the world are going to
continue to upgrade product in two different environments when they can
probably now say "yes we still support native i5/OS - you just run it
under
PASE".

Surely that is better than the other alternative Rob - which is that they
just decide there is no future in the platform and it is not worth
updating
the System i version anyway!

I among many others had similar concerns when IBM bought Java to the box.
After all wouldn't a "write once run anywhere" language simply help people
move away from the platform?

That has turned out not to be the case and Joe would almost certainly be
among the first to point out the benefits of Java on the box.

The more attractive the box is to the LAMP crowd, the more chance they
will
appreciate what it brings to the table. That in turn could lead to
demands
for native ports of PHP etc.

What's the alternative? There's not enough money in even IBM's bank
account
to pay for the advertising needed to convince the great unwashed of the
benefits of the system - so other approaches have to be tried. This is
one
of them.
