The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

YES!
So much so, I wrote about this announcement in our Centerfield newsletter
even though I don't have all the details on the implementation. I can see
System i being a definite winner as main OLTP storage engine for mySQL. I
honestly don't think any of the existing storage engines compares to DB2 on
System i in this respect.
Did IBM specify where we can get more technical info on how this "symbiosis"
is going to work? Website to check periodically or something?
I can see where mySQL would want to leverage 30 years worth of customer data
in the DB2 engine so I have no worries that part will work smoothly.
What's unclear to me is how exactly we'll interface to mySQL generated data
from our end (HLL, be it RPG, COBOL, C or whatever).
Hopefully it's seamless as things we're already doing today.
Thanks for bringing this topic up Jon.

Subject: MySQL on System i
One of the recent announcements that hasn't attracted as much attention here
as I expected is the MySQL announcement.
At COMMON Jim Herring spelled out that since they will be using the DB2
engine as the storage mechanism for MySQL, that it will be possible to
retrieve MySQL data via DB2 and vice-versa. It should also mean that we can
access such data via our RPG/COBOL programs and _that_ to me is an exciting
possibility.
I know a number of customers considering PHP as a vehicle for implementing
Help Desk, CRM, etc. without the cost of the commercial packages. However -
they know they will need to integrate to existing systems and produce
reports, and ... They could of course do it all through PHP but if they have
existing RPG skills it is much more attractive to use those.
Anyone else think this is interesting?
