Well - that effort would find them. But then all you have done is prove existence, and with no job log, there doesn't seem to be anything to
do to find out why it's still there, except turn it over to IBM.
The fact the ipl attrib exists to clean these up make me think they know
it can happen, but how do you "see" when to change the attribute?
I don't have the time to chase this and am just setting the attribute
before the monthly automated ipl. Again I would only blindly set
the attrib if sysval qlogoutput is *jobend
Would have liked to be at Common to ask an ibmer what's going on.

Would I have to use the list jobs api to get a list of all jobs, with the
Ended status and the "Ended - Device error" detailed status, but with no
spool files; to trap this?

Rob,
I found some with Device Error - but they had output from the job.
Still had the CPF2443 error when attempting to display job log.
When I deleted the spool in iNav, the job disappeared from the table (it
should).
On this system I have an automated spool purge based on various criteria
so the delete of a spool from such a job would normally occur in a
batch job after xx days.
btw- these "device error" msgs could be user cancelling (X) CA session.

I am browsing iNav now. I have several jobs with a status of Ended

(can't

seem to get that sort to work). Normally you would expect "Completed -
Printer output available" or "Completed - Job log pending". I am still
looking but I've yet to come across any of these Ended jobs that didn't
have some sort of printer output still spooled up. And some of them do
have the detailed status of "Ended - Device error".

Just tried doing View, Customize this view, Columns. I added the

Detailed

status column. Still can't get that to sort. Can't select by that

status

either. Darn. Time to pmr, failing that, DCR.

Rob - it's hard to say where would show in dspsyssts - my ipl with the

ipl

attribute to Clear Incomplete Joblogs removed the jobs from the table.
This customer site has many users on a Terminal Server, & I know they
sometimes have to reboot it during prime time so all interactive jobs
suddenly have a device error. I imagine this is all the Device Errors.

The

spool errors were actually writer errors & I didn't get the error text,
but
same CPF2443 msg.
I do think what led me to this problem, that my total #spools plus
#active jobs plus jobs in queue was less than total jobs in the system.
Ended jobs with output may have multiple spools on disk so it will not
be "equal". But Total Jobs should not be more. It helped also that I
dug into the problem just after an ipl.
