Sounds like SQL substring as fields to me, and I bet it would double the time.
Seems like the FMTDTA has made your programs easier to work with, one
more file with the item number and it's 5 components
duplicated/normalized/indexed might be my first step to next app
interfaces. This approach has no impact on existing code. Keyed access
should be faster than sorting. Once you get the "set" from the new
master then any other item files can be selected by the item key. Just
an idea.
