Those apostrophes are such a treat, aren't they?

Given SEQUEL's capabilities, including being able to string tasks together
in scripts, I find my need to write RPG and CL diminishing more and more
over time.

Paul,

I'd be careful quoting someone who's been retired for a double digit
number of years. So much has changed, any many of the caveats taken as
gospel then, either don't apply or are almost insignificant. Like mantras
about number of logicals on a physical file.

That being said however, you may be correct. Occasionally someone redoes
the time trials of OPNQRYF, vs FMTDTA, vs a host of other techniques. And,
in certain situations, FMTDTA does bang it out. Definitely NOT a one size
fits all though.

But, if maintenance is an issue, I can't recall the last time I worked
with FMTDTA, if ever. And, I've not created a new OPNQRYF since the day I
learned imbedded SQL. I hate them now. Apostrophes alone drive me up the
wall. Also, imbedded SQL will use the new query engine (providing you
meet certain criteria) while OPNQRYF will always use the classic query
engine.
