With all due respect to Rob (who really knows his stuff), IBM has a
tendency to add new fields to the end of output files which are all (?)
generated as LVLCHK(*NO), so this should not break applications on a
release boundary change.

One of many reasons I often use APIs instead...

Did a little searching but I've not found anything yet.

V5R2 --> V5R3

Does anybody know if there is a ibm site that can give me a list of
commands that will generate a different format of OUTFILE in V5R3?

Output file (OUTFILE) changes Applications using LVLCHK(*YES) may be
affected by changes made to IBM-shipped system output files in this
release. IBM commands and APIs that generate database output files added
new fields to the end of record formats for additional information
returned this release. Adding these new fields to the record format
changed the level check value for the file. This might cause an
application with LVLCHK(*YES) to fail with a level check error. If a
level check error does occur, please review the application to determine
which system file it uses. New fields have been added to IBM-shipped
database files in each release of AS/400(r) and iSeries.
