From all indications I've seen the WinFS file system is dead, so that
won't be a problem. Active Directory is going strong, so that won't change a whole lot. Not sure what other exciting surprises can be brought to the table with Longhorn other than 3d gadgets for the desktop and the "Please verify that you would like to do this operation TWICE" like Vista has :-) BTW: You can turn off the Cancel or Allow (Not recommended by MS) under the Users section in Control Panel. I suppose one of these days I should crack the BETA code for testing, but there's nothing super-compelling that I've heard about as far as features. I just did a quick scan of the web including the Microsoft site and there doesn't seem to be any clear indication on release date. Longhorn has been brewing for a long time........................ I saw articles as far back as 2004. My guess is that IBM will support it on the IXS card though. They would be silly not to support it. The IXS is one of the most underused gems on the iSeries. We're trying to plan out some upgrades over the next year+ and our current domain controllers are running on an IXS card (which we LOVE the setup and reliability of). We're trying to figure out when Longhorn will come out and how quickly the Windows Integration support will appear for it once it's available. I'm hoping to find out more about it at Common next month and didn't see anything discussing it yet on the Windows Integration pages.
