Crystal reports "has that built in"? That's amazing. I can open it up
and tell it I want OpenOrders and it automatically joins ECL, ECH, IIM,
etc, and, calculates onHand as IOPB+IADJ+IRCT-IISS? Without any setup by
a developer or anything? How does it know?

<sarcasm intended>
and the sarcasm is not necessarily intended at you. Because you already
stated "or at the minimum, create views that have the joins they need
pre-created"

The sarcasm is intended at all those who think that a GUI tool is some
sort of magic bullet that will just do all of this for them.

Nice to see that Crystal Reports does have support for stored procedures.
That helps in many ways, like:
- "Application only" access that secures the users out of data except
through stored procedures that can be molded better to your security
model.
- Calculations that might be a little intense for using as a sql User
Defined Function, or UDF, as a column in a view.
