Hi! You most probably have either of these problems: One heavily loaded server (in terms of network traffic)An assymetrical route setup (packets are routed via different routers when going in different directions)
A packet filter/firewall on one server (or router) No DNS name on one or more routers/hostsIf you have a packet filter, one server or router blocks the traceroute packets and the timeout gives the long trace times.
Could you copy the results from both traces and post here? The easiest way to see the results is to first traceroute and then run DSPJOBLOG.
Example: traceroute '193.0.0.193' Probing possible routes to 193.0.0.193 using *ANY interface. 1 192-168-1-5.varberg.net (192.168.1.5) 7.15 0.896 1.66 2 2.varbergkabel-net01c.varberg.ne (217.73.102.2) 3.00 2.76 1.66 3 17.229.88.213.host.songnetworks. First of all i am not a network guy. I have a basic understand of all the equipment and understand how it works. I have a situation that I don't understand.AS400 820 is production system As400 820 is identical and is the HA system There are 2 10megabit/second lines attaching the 2 systems Both lines are defined the same (100m Full duplex) When I do a traceroute from Prod to HA, it takes about 2 seconds total When I do a traceroute from HA to Prod, it takes 15-20 seconds total I use the network address each time not the system name Both traces come back with 3 hops neither trace leaves the internal network loop I would appreciate any help as to why the time differences Thanks in advance.
