RE: Using a UUID to name an IFS file

I don't code in RPG so I'm not sure if it has a built-in to convert to hex.
C has some (sprintf)...
Vern's suggestion of using SQL's HEX function and VALUES INTO clause seems
like a winner to me.
Alternatively, there is a CVTHC MI built-in I've used on some occasions:

Good point.  Do you have a simple routine to convert a field to it's hex 
value?  Be nice if RPGLE had a 
MyChar=%hex(%trim(MyUuid));
