Vista Trail of Tears - A Step Backward

Well I counted my chickens before they hatched.  The RPU did repair itself
so that a search for Updates was successful in producing the list of new
updates but the request to download and install ended in a hung machine. The
download seem to work ok but at the "end" of the download nothing happens to
transfer the operation to the "install" action. Are there any other
Vistaites out there who have encountered this problem and did you get around
it.
