RE: Report Writing Software

Aaron,

I hope your finger is okay.  I didn't anticipate people having to manually 
check wether or not they were in the real world.

I looked at the planetj web site and could not find many tech specs.  Is there 
a GUI for report design?  If so is it, or can it be page oriented (the focus of 
their web site is on creating web applications, not reports).  Is there an api 
to generate a report from within your own code without running this under an 
application server?  Can the output be put to a spool file?

I will put in an inquiry with planetj as well, but it always helps me if I can 
get a little info from an actual user.

the few query tools I have used on the iSeries.

Such a loaded question;-)  Just pinched myself, but wasn't convinced so I
stuck my finger in a metal fan and it hurt like crazy.  I am in the real
world... I think :-)

        I am looking for report writing software for a system i 520 v5r3.

        Here is a list of requirements and desired features

        Requirements:
        1.  Able to report directly from database, not a spool file scraper.
        2.  API for integrating into existing programs using parametric
queries (java and/or rpg)
        3.  GUI report design

        Desired Features:
        1.  Output to different formats including excel, pdf, and spool file
        2.  Ability to run the client and ideally the server software on
multiple platforms 
        3.  I know I'm forgetting something so I reserve the right to
arbitrarily shoot down great recomendations

        Hopefully I'm posting this in the right place.  I thought of posting
it on the general midrange list, but I am hoping for technical responses.
I've started doing some research, but vendor websites are all thick with
marketing speak.  I'm looking for real world experience from real world
users.  Any of you from the real world?
