I've been involved with this issue with IBM's support for over a month.

Here's the complete PMR:

http://projectdream.org/pmr-overlays.txt

There will be a resolution for the AFP driver in Q2 2007. Maybe. Eventually.
Probably.

We did find a solution, however.

It involved 5722-IP1 though, so i hope you have that LICPGM.

You will need the (Windows) tiff2afp tool.

From our internal docs (in German, very fast and ugly translation below):

Grafikkonversion über das tiff2afp Tool

##### ENGLISH VERSIOn

Requirements

IBM InfoPrint Server - License Program 5722IP1
PC graphics program capable of genreating TIFF output

Installation

Tiff2afp and other service program can be installed from the IFS path on the
system
/QIBM/ProdData/InfoprintServer/Transforms/Install/Image/setup.exe

You should be able to find tiff2afp now in the following path:
%ProgramFiles%\IBM Printing Systems\bin\tiff2afp.exe

Generate AFP Data:

The Initial graphic can be scanned or created, and can be retouched and save
das a 24bit color picture in TIFF format with LZW compression (or without
compression).

The Tiff File can now be converted with the tiff2afp Toolit:

If you create the overlay for a black and white printer, yo uwill need to
convert the data to IOCA FS10 format

tiff2afp -a ioca10 -pagetype overlay C:\meinbild.tiff

If you create an Overlay for a color printer, you will need to convert the
picture to IOCA FS45 format data:

tiff2afp -a ioca45 -pagetype overlay -cmp jpeg C:\meinbild.tiff

The resulting file C:\meinbild.afp now contains the required AFP data

Hint: Conversion with the tiff2afp tools creates AFP data with a resolution ov
300 DPI, this means that 300 points on the initial picture will correspond to 1
inch (2.54cm) on paper. If you want to print a letterhead in the format 17x2 cm
(ca. 6.7x 0.8 inch), you will need to create an intiial graphic with 2010x240
points.

####End Docs

Hope this helps.

Cyas,

Lukas

Original German Version:

    * Voraussetzungen:
o IBM InfoPrint Server (Lizenzprogramm 5722IP1)
o Beliebiges PC Grafik-/Layoutprogramm mit Speichermöglichkeit im
TIFF-Format
    * Installation:
Arbeitsstation installiert:
            /QIBM/ProdData/InfoprintServer/Transforms/Install/Image/setup.exe
            %ProgramFiles%\IBM Printing Systems\bin\tiff2afp.exe
    * AFP-Daten erzeugen:
                  tiff2afp -a ioca10 -pagetype overlay C:\meinbild.tiff
                  tiff2afp -a ioca45 -pagetype overlay -cmp jpeg
C:\meinbild.tiff

aufweisen.

Subject: get color overlay to work?

From the archives, there was discussion of getting color overlays to
work on the iSeries, with no thread announcing success. Need to print a
simple invoice overlay, with color logos. It would be great if no additional
products needed, other than a pc product like Word or Photoshop. Has any
been able to do this? The price of various forms products (over 10k) is killing
this project for a company with only 1 pre-printed form.
No network server exists at this site. At v5r4. Base OS, iSeries Access, dev
tools only.
