I was going to say that 8mm and QIC drives are notorious for large
amounts of temp errors. There's a book somewhere with an "acceptable"
level for each drive type.

I concur with IBM, however I didn't want to say it and risk getting
flamed prior to them saying the same thing. We have one system with a
QIC and the levels are comparable to yours. Never had a problem saving
or restoring.

Subject: need feedback: temporary read/write errors on 6384 1/4" tape
drive

List,

I need some feedback from those of you that use the 6384 1/4" internal
tape
drive. I am seeing a high number of temporary read and write errors on
both
of my 9405/520's. Our 2nd system is a v5r4 system that we've only had
for
about 4 weeks and it is behaving the same way as the older v5r3 system.
The
output from PRTERRLOG below is from the v5r4 system. (this is after
several
good cleanings)

I placed a service call with IBM. A technician came and did not find any

(what he termed as) "serious" errors. He said he would be willing to
replace
the drive but did not believe that anything would change if he did.

For those of you that are using a 6384 internal drive, do you consider
this
"normal"? What does PRTERRLOG for your drive show? Thanks for your
comments.
