I'm starting to assemble a plan to do a major upgrade about one year from now. Our current system is a model 720 with V4R4. It performs quite well but it is approaching 7 years old. The system I would like would be two Power 6 machines in a High Availability configuration. The machines would be about 15 miles apart connected with T1 communications. Probably no LPAR will be used. These would be simply machines supporting about 100 users. There would be no upgrading of the old system. Here's my dilemma. As I have stated in the past - It is NOT easy to configure and purchase a system. I do not have an IBM business partner and I am somewhat remotely located (Waynesboro, PA - 90 miles NW of Wash D.C.) I plan to attend the COMMON conference in April to connect with the vendors at the expo. I'll have to deal with software license issues which I hope won't sink the ship. The hardware we can afford. I don't think I can figure this out all by myself (2 person shop). How does one go about getting configuration assistance for a project which won't occur until next year?
