The battery is available at Wal-Mart for $10. It's a GE/Sanyo PCF01M. This is for most of the older cache cards. Search the archives for my trials and tribulations. Justin C. Rob, This is not meant as a flame at all. But not everyone works for a big company where costs don't matter. I own and run a small business and we have 9 iSeries boxes in our data center. We maintain them ourselves to cut costs. We have a local supplier and quick availability to parts. We also do work for plenty of smaller companies that don't need/cant afford an iSeries professional. These customers are generally very cost conscience. We treat their money like it is ours and try to recommend ways for them to save money here and there. We have been in business for 17 years, so I assume we are doing a few things right. Our first customer is our biggest. There is nothing wrong with making recommendations to save a few bucks. Our rates are also very reasonable because I don't want the first thing in the mind of the client to want to shoe me out the door because all he sees are dollars flying out the door the minute I walk in. The cost of sales are very high, and I will take a happy, repeat customer any day. Sorry my suggestions seem penny pinching and cheap. cjg Carl J. Yeah, but if it's under maintenance, who cares what it costs? It's not like anyone would really try to run a business on a "Frankie" or some machine they bought off of eBay cheap. But, I suppose for home use, then the Batteries Plus idea is a good tip. I wrote a disk status monitor for our systems (and also runs on many of our customers), that will report the status as degraded to my cell phone. If you take the battery to batteries plus you can get the same battery for a few bucks compared to what IBM charges for the same part. cjg Carl J. Also, why didn't the system call home like it does with other problems ? It calls and complains when a drive is going bad, why not the batery ? Cyndi B.
