Mike, we are in the EDI business. The 3 major players (Inovis/Trusted Link,
Extol, and Gentran) are all good packages and we have had success
implementing all 3. If cost is your hot button, you can very easily
integrate a PC based solution as well. We have successfully integrated
Gentran on the PC using ODBC to read/write the AS400 DB2. Also, depending
on your iSeries size, the iSeries packages are tier priced and can get quite
expensive. We have had some clients buy a small iSeries and the P05 version
of the software and still spend quite a bit less than what a comparable P30
or 40 system might cost.

Other things to consider: communications... Do you need to support AS2, or
just VAN traffic or run your own mailboxing/messaging system and exchange
data via FTP.

Commercial mode on: We also run an EDI outsourcing business.

Regards,
cjg

Subject: EDI translation/mapping packages

All,

We're looking for an EDI translation/mapping package. We'd prefer it to run
on our i5, but we're not going to be dogmatic about it if it's easy to
integrate with the i5. Any recommendations/warnings? In searching the
archives, it looks like TrustedLink and Gentran are pretty frequently used.

Thanks!
Mike E.
