Back again.... Thanks for all of the previous responses, however..............My boss's opinion is - if they say they can work with a spooled file then we will send it to them. My worry is - how the heck do I get it to them other than all of the wonderful solutions you suggested that we cannot implement. No PDF, no Infoprint server, etc. Found a system program QSPGetF that I am trying to use. Not sure what the output will look like in the db file, but thought I'd give it a try. However, I keep getting this message:" File QPRINT not found in job 417803/TRSFDD/TRSFDDP03" It really and truly is there. I tried it with other spooled files, too. Same error. Tried both development and production boxes. We are at V5R2M0. Then I searched for "QSPGETF error" and found my own question from a couple of years ago where I apparently did call the program - not the results I wanted but, it didn't abort for this reason. Then I found this while searching for "QSPGETF changed": " I couldn't find it anywhere in the archives and because QSPGETF is essentially an undocumented API, I couldn't find anything on IBM's website about it - but just be warned that the spool number parameter has changed. It is now 4 binary, vs. 2 binary at V4R5 and before" I don't think that's my problem, though, but here is the call: call (QSYS/QSPGETF PARM('QPRINT ' 'PRINTWIDE TRSFDD ' 'TRSFDDP03 TRSFDD 417803' X'00F1' 'TESTAPI' Everything seems to be ok as far as field lengths. This is spooled file #1 for this job. Does anything jump out at you? We are really serious about this now - the Xerox printer and assocated PCs (iConvert and Xerox) are gone. The new LAN printer is hooked up, but we won't be using it for those large jobs. Thanks once again. ORIGINAL message We are at the end of our lease on a printer we have been using for five years. The spooled files go through iConvert software then into the Xerox printer. We bought an HP5550 to handle normal daily work that is in addition to our desktop printers. We have asked our purchasing dept to get quotes for outsourcing the large printing jobs - 30,000+ pages. We intend to send the spooled file to the vendor. One vendor says it must be a PDF. That is not an option. We are moving off the AS/400 in a couple of years so this is just a temporary solution. Two questions: (1) Do you know of a vendor such as Kinkos or Moore that handles print jobs from a spooled file? (2) How would I get the spooled file prepared to send to our server or via e-mail? Don't think a *SAVF would work. Cannot CPYSPLF - advance function printing. Thanks for your help. Fran D.
