I need to copy a subset of a huge customer file into a test version of the
file. The customer file is uniquely keyed by company number (CONUM) and
customer number (CUNUM). The subset is to be derived from a transaction
file, which has the CONUM & CUNUM keys. Problem is that the transaction
file will have multiple records for any customer record. Can SQL's INSERT
somehow be used for this, or is this more easily solved by an RPG
application?

Hi Dan

Have a look at
http://www.dbg400.net/cgi-bin/twiki/view/DBG400/DataBaseGeneration
- DBG/400 - which is designed to do just what (I think) you're after.
It can do subsets using links that define one file's relation to
another, with scripts that string the links together. If you don't
want to build from source you can download a save file of the source &
compiled objects - see the Downloads link.
