Careful. MF PTFs are part of hardware maintenance as the firmware is considered part of the hardware. So if you stay with IBM for hardware maintenance there you are OK. If you go 3rd party your out on those. For SI PTFs that's part of Software Maintenance so you could find yourself out of luck if you need PTFs.....Of course you also can't get software support without it so you're in double trouble.

upgrading to V5R3 since it is the last OS upgrade available for that model
and they have no other LPPs to carry forward to a new box. PTFs are covered
