Way to go Aaron!

One thing I've seen from the winweenies :) is that they don't have a clue what
we can do on the i!

Tell the profs that with one i5 server, and maybe a partition or two, they can
still teach SQL, C, CPP, RPG, COBOL, HTTP, e-business, COBOL, Java, JSP, SOA,
server partitioning, AIX, System partitioning, TCP/IP, SMTP, SNMP, LDAP, FTP,
Telnet, DRDA, sockets programming, SSL, OO programming, Pascal (right?), Basic,
Visual RPG, PLI, Rexx, Query, Databases, Security.

And put a Windows card on there (I used to rib my Windows-programming brother
by calling them "baby cards") and teach all of that stuff. Come to think of it,
they can use thin clients for the whole gamut for workstations. And they could
teach the windows stuff too but keep it ->protected<- on the i5!

And if we get going with our GUI programming, be it HTML, Java, or (ahem)
dot-Net tie-ins, or some other user-pleasant interface, and do it right, we can
serve up all the sorting and data an accountant could ever want without having
to insist on his Excel spreadsheets!

albartell......I just had lunch with a prof from a local tech college and he is
going to have me come and speak about XML web services on the iSeries. I am
also
going to see if I can get some class time to show the students WDSC.

debbie....>Now we're lucky to get 12 every few months. Things have been
deteriorating for quite some time and that will take awhile to come back. We
need to get into the colleges to show people that the iSeries is still going
strong. I am fortunate enough to have a local college that still teaches RPG
and iSeries classes. From the sounds of it IBM recognizes this and has some
solid case studies of them getting back into colleges. Now that same pattern
just needs to spread to other colleges.
