Steve - it's a 36 minute clip (and i've clicked start clip twice & it's not going....) I do give weight to MS exec statements the way I do IBM execs - they are selling something. The real world early adopters will write the history of whether Vista lives up to the hype. I firmly agree with Lukas's statement - a comparison of server security to desktop security is next to meaningless. You can look at MS's effort to lockdown the problems with exploited desktops, and the proof will be in the qty of exploits and patches. Every release of MS software has been "the most secure ever..." and you can say the same for IBM.
They are always improving or at least trying to.

While I realize there's a certain amount of "preaching to the choir" in this
particular email, I still think that it's important to end the year with a
real world look at the security of Windows.

here is Jim Allchin, certified very smart guy, talking about Vista. As I recall from watching the interview last month, he spends a lot of time addressing Vista security.

( are there any IBM execs with anything close to the technical knowledge and experience of MSFT execs? )

as I understand it, Vista is the first Windows desktop OS that users have no need to login as administrator. Which theoretically is a big deal because code run by guest type users via email viruses cant trash the system like they can when the user is logged in with administrator rights.
