Problem with Console while Upgrading from V5R3 to V5R4

Hi *all,
thought this upgrade would be a no brainer - now I sit here and feel pretty dumb ! We had some trouble with our OPs Console IDs on different PCs, so I decided to 
go back to twinax for this upgrade from V5R3 / LIC V5R3M5 to V5R4.
Made the IPL to B M and went into DST, switched everything to twinax, no takeover, deleted that LAN info on the DASD and made my IPL to D N with the i_Base V5R4 
in the CDROM drive.
System hangs on C6004031 and sits there forever (45 min) then some IPL step-
messages at the twinax console and I have a signon screen.
What a surprise, I am back on V5R3 !!! no messages in the LICPGM history-log, 
no sysopr message, nothing ! What is going on here ?
