First, it's not a Monday unless you get in at least three good rants
before dinner.

Second, while it may certainly be true that Windows solutions don't
offer the "stability, security and scalability of an iSeries", it is
also proving true enough that Windows solutions are in fact "good
enough" for most businesses. I'm not sure why the security holes in
Windows, IIS, and SQL Server are accepted, but they are. I don't know
why scaling out v. up is fine when most people acknowledge that server
admin costs are higher than hardware & OS costs. I don't know why the
occasional lockups, lack of workload management capabilities, and so on
don't cause IT management's hair to stand on it's end but the fact is
for the most part it doesn't.

iPrefer to put as much work on the iSeries as possible. The main reason
is that iTrust it. However, as I've been spending way too much time
saying, the cost of the pure iSeries solution that we need is out of
line with the benefit to the business. And when that occurs I have to
be loyal to my employer and not to IBM.

But this is one place I'll remain adamant: despite all the hobbledehoy
out there, there still isn't a Windows solution that comes near the
stability, security and scalability of an iSeries.

Okay, that's my rant for the day.
