One of my clients made that decision last year, and threw several
million dollars at the project to get it up and running by end of
fiscal year (sept).

they still haven't closed period 1 (october).

Another one bites the dust

I was informed here on Friday that the AS400 (iSeries) will be replaced in
the coming year by I think it is an Oracle based system, no idea of what
hardware it will run on. I think that timescale is a little optimistic but
it matters not, another one goes and one of the main reasons that the guy
gives (although I feel it is just one excuse he can point to) is the lack
of skilled programmers. Saying that he seems to have been on a crusade for
about 9 years to replace the box.

I personaly do not see it as there always seems to be enough going for the
contracts against me, but it does seem to be re-iterated, like a broken
record, by a number of people.

Whatever the reason, another nail in the iSeries coffin.

Steve
